Essay Structures and Formats

Essays can’t serve their purpose unless they are written in the proper format. People argue why essays can’t be written in two or just three paragraphs. The logic is absolutely simple. Essays are just like stories. You can’t skip on the most imperative aspects. Leaving one can destroy the intensity and fun both. Most essays are written in the regular five-paragraphed format. This can extend to over five paragraphs in some cases.

In an essay, introduction is utilized to introduce the topic and give some background information of the topic in discussion. Introduction in essay only takes 10% to 15% and gives most generalized perspective of the topic. As the topic of essay proceeds, it gets more specific. You have to identify main points that you wish to discuss in your essay. It is better to be focused. Always select three to four points that you wish to write about in your essay as expanding the topic can get you in trouble while concluding the topic.

Introduction does not exceed from single paragraph generally in the essays. Body copy is the most extensive part where you can develop and explore various aspects of the topic. Include topic sentence for each paragraph of your essay and include supporting details. These details reinforce the theme, outline and argument of the topic sentence. Though basic essay format is based on five paragraphs but you can increase the capacity according to the requirements. The final part is conclusion without which essays are incomplete. Conclusion is one of the three most imperative part essay format and structure. Make sure that you have summed up the argument or topic with reference to the essay questions.
